What we do

Everything a garden needs, one Surrey team.

From full design-and-build gardens to paving and walling, structures and lighting, kitchen gardens, planting and year-round maintenance — Hammond Landscapes covers the lot in-house across Guildford and Surrey, with Sam on site and certified specialists coordinated where a job needs them.

01Service

Garden Design

Good gardens are designed, not just built. Sam walks the plot with you, works out how you want to live in it — where the sun sits, how you get around, what the slope and drainage are doing — and puts a clear design and an itemised quote to it. Because the person who designs the garden is the same one who builds it, the drawing you agree is the garden you get, with no detail lost in translation.

02Service

Landscape Construction & Planting

When a garden needs more than a tidy-up we take it back to the bones and rebuild around how you actually use it. One crew handles the lot: excavation and levels first, then paving, walling, structures and lighting, and finally turf and planting so the design fills out the way it was drawn. One client watched a collapsed, storm-hit corner rebuilt and their garden left, in their words, in perfect condition.

03Service

Paving & Walling

Paving and walling set the frame for everything else, and they are where cutting corners shows first. We lay Indian sandstone, natural stone and porcelain to falls that drain properly, bedded and jointed so they sit level and stay put through the winters — not laid on sand to lift and rock a few years on. Retaining and feature walls are built on proper foundations to hold ground and last.

04Service

Garden Structures & Lighting

The right structure turns an awkward space into somewhere you actually spend time, and lighting extends the garden into the evening. We build pergolas, steps and feature elements square and weathertight, and design and install garden and driveway lighting — including integral lighting set into steps and setts — coordinating an accredited electrician for the connections. One front-garden project brought driveway setts with integral lighting, a corten-steel feature and full irrigation together as one scheme.

05Service

Planting Work & Plant Supply

Planting is where a design comes to life. We set out borders and beds to suit the soil and the light, select and supply the plants to match the scheme, and get them in properly so they root and establish. On one project the brief ran from planting design and plant selection through to new turf, lighting and irrigation — all handled as one package rather than farmed out.

06Service

Kitchen Gardens

A kitchen garden earns its place in the plot. We build raised beds and fruit cages in timber and stone, fill and prepare them properly, and set them out where the light and access make them easy to work. Whether it sits as a feature within a wider design or a productive corner of its own, it's built to be used season after season, not just to look the part.

07Service

Garden Maintenance

A garden is worth looking after, and maintenance is how it reaches its best. We offer regular grass cutting, weeding, hedge and shrub pruning and general seasonal attention — for gardens we have built and for gardens we haven't — so borders stay sharp, lawns stay healthy and the whole space keeps maturing rather than drifting back to where it started.

08Service

Garden Makeover & Renovation

Not every garden needs stripping to the soil. A makeover reworks what's sound — a good lawn, a mature tree, a wall worth keeping — and rebuilds the rest around it: lifting and relaying failed paving, reshaping beds, renewing planting and adding the structure the garden was missing. It's the practical route to a garden that works, without the cost or upheaval of starting from nothing.

09Service

Project Management & Consultation

On a bigger project the coordination is half the job. Hammond Landscapes manages the whole programme — sequencing the build, ordering the materials, and bringing in and coordinating accredited specialists where they're needed — so you deal with one person, Sam, rather than chasing a chain of separate trades. We're also happy to consult on a scheme you're planning to run yourself.

10Service

Tree Surgery & Electrical (accredited partners)

Some work rightly needs a certified specialist: tree surgery, and electrical connections for garden and driveway lighting or irrigation controls. Rather than send you off to find and manage those trades yourself, we bring in accredited subcontractors we know and trust, and coordinate them within the wider project — one programme, one point of contact, work done to the right standard.

Materials & finishes

Chosen to last, not just to look good on day one.

Good landscaping is as much about the base you don't see as the surface you do. Here is what we tend to reach for, and why.

Indian sandstone & natural stone

Riven and sawn sandstone for patios, paths and steps with a warm, natural finish — bedded and laid to falls so water runs off, not back toward the house.

Porcelain paving

Hard-wearing, low-maintenance porcelain for a crisper, contemporary look — near-zero staining and colour-stable through the seasons.

Retaining & feature walling

Block, brick and stone walling built on proper foundations to hold ground on sloping plots and frame the garden — structure that lasts, not just looks.

Garden & driveway lighting

Integral lighting set into steps and setts and low-level border lighting, designed to extend the garden into the evening — with an accredited electrician for the connections.

How it works

Design, build, aftercare — one team.

The full process

01

Design & consultation

Sam comes out, walks the plot with you and listens to how you actually use the garden — sun, slope, drainage, access, the lot. Then we put a clear design and an itemised quote to it, with real options to choose between rather than one take-it-or-leave-it plan. For larger schemes we handle the project management and any planning questions too.

02

Build & planting

One team carries the whole build — groundwork and levels, paving and walling, garden structures and lighting, then turf and planting. We work tidy and explain each stage before it happens. Where a job needs a certified trade — tree surgery or an electrical connection — we bring in accredited subcontractors and coordinate them so you don't have to.

03

Maintenance & aftercare

A new garden is an investment and it needs looking after to reach its best. We can keep it right afterwards — grass cutting, weeding, seasonal planting care and general maintenance — so it goes on maturing through the seasons rather than drifting back to where it started.

Before you call

Questions we're asked most.

Do you charge for a consultation or quote?

No. The first site visit and the itemised quote that follows are free and come with no obligation. Sam comes out, walks the garden with you, listens to how you use it and then puts a clear design and price to it — whether it's a single patio or a full transformation.

Will I actually deal with Sam, or a salesperson?

Sam. He owns Hammond Landscapes, quotes the work himself and is on site through the build — which is why clients name him personally in nearly every review. There's no sales layer between you and the person doing the job.

How do I know the paving is built to last?

We bed and lay stone on a properly prepared, consolidated sub-base and correct falls — not on a thin bed of sand — so patios, steps and setts sit level and stay put through the winters. We'll show you the build-up in the quote so you know what's going in under the surface.

How do you handle work that needs a certified trade?

For tree surgery and electrical connections we bring in accredited subcontractors we know and trust, and coordinate them within the project — one programme, one point of contact, certified work done to the right standard.

Do you only do big projects, or smaller jobs too?

Both. We take on full design-and-build gardens, but we also lay a single patio, build a wall, plant borders, put in a raised bed or come back for regular maintenance. Plenty of clients start with one job and keep us on for the next.

Can you look after the garden once it's built?

Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance — grass cutting, weeding, pruning and seasonal attention — so the garden goes on developing and maturing through the seasons rather than drifting back.

Not sure what the garden needs?

That's what the free consultation is for. We'll walk the garden with you, tell you straight what's involved, and put a clear plan and price to it.
